East Midlands Money Advice - The EMMA Partnerships
East Midlands Money Advice (EMMA) is a partnership of independent advice organisations, Law Centres and Citizens Advice Bureaux working across the East Midlands to help individuals and communities cope with debt and financial exclusion
The EMMA partnership has the primary objective of increasing the availability of free debt advice services across the East Midlands region, targeting individuals who are excluded from mainstream financial services such as bank accounts and affordable credit. It is one of sixteen national projects established under the Financial Inclusion Fund Face to Face Advice initiative. To date the project funding has been used to recruit, train and deploy 50 new debt advisers across the region, making a significant increase in capacity to the current level of debt advice services available.
With ongoing funding now confirmed up to March 2011, advisers employed under the EMMA Partnership will be providing free face to face debt advice services to over 7,500 new clients each and every year.
The EMMA partnership also has a wider objective in terms of tackling financial exclusion in partnership across the East Midlands region. EMMA aims to promote and support a structure that will promote collaboration and co-operation, and create links that will remain as a genuine added value for the East Midlands, and for the sector, in future years. EMMA will strive to influence current strategic partnerships to raise awareness and understanding of debt and its impact on the lives and health of people across the region, and upon the community in general. The initiative seeks to demonstrate the value and significance of debt advice services delivered by the voluntary sector, and demonstrate the positive effect that advice services can have on people’s lives across the East Midlands.
